National Council of Non-Governmental Development Organizations

Who are we ?

History and creation

The need for consolidation and consultation at both the national and provincial levels was felt with the emergence of voluntary development organizations which began, in the early 1980s, a process of establishing a national platform to serve as a framework for exchange and consultation. Thanks to the support of the UNDP and the Ministry of Planning, several meetings of NGDOs were possible. The main dates are:

The National Council of Non-Governmental Development Organizations, CNONGD for short, is a network of development NGOs in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was established on December 20, 1990. Currently, it has 565 member NGOs spread across the country and grouped into Regional (Provincial) NGDO Councils, CRONGD for short.

At the level of each CRONGD, the grouping of members is done by theme and by geographical location. This is how we find within the network geographical collectives (for organizations that operate in the same radius which can be one territory or two given the proximity) and thematic collectives (for organizations that work on the same theme in a fairly small radius as in the case of geographical collectives). This system has the advantage of encouraging close exchanges between members and fostering synergy.

The CNONGD has its headquarters in Kinshasa on Avenue Fayala, number 3, Quartier Mombele in the Commune of Limete in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

« The CNONGD is a strong, competitive, dynamic network and partner of the public institutions of the DR Congo, which dreams of a society in which populations are able to satisfy their basic needs, influence political decisions, truly participate in the management of the city, practice the gender approach, thanks to the support of well-organized and structured NGOs. ».

« The CNONGD's mission is to promote good governance and local development in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In this capacity, it promotes ethics and transparency, and ensures compliance with rules, as well as with tasks and functions.».

« All the NGO members of the network share common ethics and values in terms of development programs and support for target populations in self-promotion.».
